Thing 5: Delicious

I have used Delicious before, but mostly to save travel articles, organizing articles, and recipes that I want to save for the future. It keeps me from having magazine pages strewn all over my house and makes me feel more organized. All sorts of interesting information is safely waiting for the wonderful day when I will have time to sit around and read links for hours, whenever that magical day occurs.

I like the idea of using Delicious on the public computers in the children's department of our library, maybe for special assignments or questions that come up often. The logistics of getting it on there are a bit tricky -- has anyone done it at their library?

  1. Yah, I think I too have a 'magical day in the future' where I'll just sit down and read all the pages I've saved. (cough cough) but somehow I love having them there anyway. I save a ton of recipes and travel stuff too. Lots of local restaurants and online shopping sites also. : )

And yes, I'm really intrigued with how Delicious is used in libraries, specifically in children's departments. Since I work in admin for a system, I use it for the librarians I work with and have a feed on my youth services blog that captures what I bookmark on Delicious with specific tags like 'children, children's lit, grants, summer reading etc.' so that the librarians get a little glimpse of what I've found out there that might be of interest to them. You could easily do that for parents on a website too - bookmark certain sites on homework help, family trips, cooking healthy meals for kids, etc. and parents can glimpse at some helpful sites!

  2. I've tried to get one going for our library, but haven't added any links in a long time. It's linked to our facebook page, and on our website. I'd like to add it as an icon on our patron computers also, once it had been reorganized. I think it's a great alternative to having too many links on a webpage. And easier to edit.
